So I’ve run into several of these LOLsites, websites that have cute or funny pictures with hilarious captions. It all started with lolcats and has expanded to all kinds of topics. Here are a few that I have come across recently:

LOLcats - The origin of LOL pictures started with cute kitties. I can haz cheezburger?

LOLdogs - This is a LOL site that my friend makes about dogs.

LOLbots - Funny robots?

LOLgay - Gay pics with funny captions.

LOLjesus - Highly offensive material.

LOLcelebs - Celebrity pics with captions.

LOLpresident - Various presidents being LOL’d.

I just added the show top commentators plugin and widget to my blog sidebar. Check and see if you’re on it! The cool part is that it lists each commentators blog as a hyperlink which can bring more traffic to their site and help improve their ranking! It resets every month allowing new people to get added to the list. I highly recommend this widget for all wordpress bloggers!

LOL Dogs
Alright so you guys know how I like the website icanhascheezburger.com, right? Well it’s about 99% lol cats. My friend Amanda has made a LOL site just for dogs! If you have any cute pictures of your furry little friend you can upload them on her site and she will post them for all to see! You can even tell her what funny caption you would like on the photo OR she can write one for you. But even if you don’t have a dog you should at least check out some of the adorable photos she has collected and captioned.

First off, the definition of favicon according to wikipedia is “Short for ‘favorites icon’, also known as a page icon or an urlicon, is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage.” Or in plain English - that little picture thingy next to the url in your address bar.

 

 

Normally you would have to make a 16×16 pixel .png photo and then convert that into an .ico file to make a favicon. However, now all you have to do is go to htmlkit.com and it will make your favicon from any photo instantly - and for free! You then upload the converted .ico file to your root directory. The site also gives you the html tag to put on your site so the icon will show for all of your visitors. I just made mine yesterday. I couldn’t think of a good photo to use, so I just put up a picture that shows half my face (like I’m peeking at you while you’re on my blog haha.)

Do you have to have a favicon for your site? No, but more and more sites are starting to use them and it will give visitors who favorite your site a little icon to remember you by in their bookmarks.

Mr. Gary Lee who writes blogs about internet marketing, golf equipment, and ways to get a free online coupon is giving away a free iPhone! He happened to get two from Apple. The contest lasts until mid-August so enter while you can! You know I did! For a free iPhone I would switch from Sprint to AT&T. LOL Or maybe I just wanna see how good it really blends…

From now on the people who comment on my blog will be rewarded. Normally people who comment on a blog do not get their website/blog advanced in Google or Technorati rankings. This is because by default most blogs have the [no follow] tag on urls placed in comment fields. Now there is a huge “I Follow” movement in the wordpress blogosphere. Bloggers are adding the do-follow plugin that will add a [do follow] tag after every comment. Which means from now on when you comment on tallfreak.com and enter your site in the form - you will get rewarded because Google and Technorati will see your link on my blog. The more times they see your link on other sites, the better your ranking will be. I’m just trying to show some love to my readers. Plus I love comments!!

Update: Do not make small little comments just so you get rewarded. All spammy comments that do not add to the discussion will be deleted!

My friend Hiram just released a website for one of his favorite SNL actors, Bill Hader. I wanted to give his site a shoutout even though I’m very jealous of his graphic designs. So anyone who likes Saturday Night Live should check it out. The site contains the hilarious SNL sketches of Dear Sister, The Archibald Bitch Slap, Laser Cats, and more!

Okay so I joined last.fm recently. It’s pretty cool. It remembers everything you listen to on your iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. - basically any song that comes out of your computer speakers. Then it will make your own radio station based on the artists you listen to the most. It also makes a RSS feed if you ever want to share the songs you are currently listening to. You can find the songs I’m listening to right now on my sidebar under “listening to.” Warning: if you decide to do this you run the risk of total humiliation. Last.fm says my top artist is Debbie Gibson. I’m not really that into her - I swear!

 

On Firefox you can save all your favorite websites on the horizontal toolbar for easy access. I had so many that I ran out of room. Thank goodness for favicons (those little icons next to the URL in the address bar).  You can right-click on the icons in the toolbar and delete the titles under properties which leaves you with just the favicon.  Now my toolbar is only filled with icons instead of text, saving me a bunch more room!
