How I wish I can do this diet that you are into. In my case, I have rich “diet” of rice morning, noon and night coupled with meat viand. Seriously, I tried the low carb, low fat diet, and while it worked (I lost 12-14 pounds), I just gave it up as soon as Christmas and New Year weeks came. I just can’t resist all that food! Anyway, I can see the fruit flush diet works on you. Go, go, go!! Hopefully, you get great results soon.

6 lbs, that is quite good! I’m not sure if I could pull through 3 days like that. Well done!

Yep man - it’s all about the portion control. That’s one big way I keep from gaining back lots of the weight it took me so long to lose a few years ago! That and walking around whenever I can.

Losing 6 pounds in 3 days is pretty cool. I don’t know if I could give up my real food!

Losing respectable amount of weight in the beginning of practically any diet is mostly result of water loss as far as I know. It’s only after 2-3 weeks that real real results should be visible. That being said I wish you, and anyone who are on a diet of any kind success and the willpower to hold on what they started cause it can really feel like impossible task.

Did you buy the protein shakes pre-made or was it something that the book showed you how to put together. Trying to get hold of the book here in UK but Amazon is £20.13 ($40) for paperback!

Hi, Chris!

Glad to hear you lost the weight from the “cruise binge” LOL I think we can all relate due to typical holiday eating, etc.

Based on education and my personal experience, here are the most important components for losing/maintaining weight:

1) Motivation (see below)
2) Eating something healthy upon awakening (even if not hungry)
3) Reductions in meal size (portion control)
4) Adequate water intake
5) Healthy snacks between meals (even if not hungry)
6) Aerobic exercise
7) Increased fiber intake
8) Peer support
9) Distracting the mind when cravings hit (note: cravings are NOT the same as hunger)

I have done ALL the above (with some failings, of course) for the last month and have lost 20 pounds (from 250 to 230). I must disclose that exercise has been my weakest component.

Chris, you are so right: the body gets used to it. Much more gradually, so does the mind. They both adjust because as we approach our ideal weight, the body and mind simply work better. In other words, homeostasis (balance) is near, and the body is all about some homeostasis.

However, as everyone knows, the mind is much slower to accept change (from within or without) than the body. This is where tools like peer support and distraction are invaluable. Further, an ‘I can do it’ attitude is imperative. If you truly don’t believe you can do it, you can’t. In such cases, you can only hope that a motivator will enter your life situation that is greater than your pessimistic outlook.

Our motivations for weight loss and maintenance are ALL fear and pain-based (mind-based). In other words, when it comes to weight loss, fear and pain are the ONLY sufficient motivators. Some may disagree by stating ‘I just want to be healthier and look better’. That is a farce. Behind every such statement are fears such as: ‘As I get older, I don’t want any weight-related diseases, or, Dad has diabetes and I don’t want that’ (fear of premature death and pain). ‘My back, feet, knees, etc hurt because I weigh too much’ (pain). ‘I prefer a partner who is in-shape, but most in that group also prefer a partner who is in-shape, and I’m not’ (fear of being alone). ‘I want to be alive to see my grandkids grow up’ (fear of loss or ‘missing-out’).

Depending on the individual, these and other such fear/pain-based motivations not only lead to effectiveness, but are the ONLY ones the MIND will view as acceptable and worth taking action on. So, it is crucial for those of us trying to lose or maintain our weight to not just say “I want to lose some weight”, but to actually identify our motives and do whatever we need to do to remind ourselves of them - especially at those times when conscious motivation is lacking.

For example, when I don’t want to exercise (almost always), I look at my list of motivators. Looking at my motivating fears almost always gets me on my bike to exercise! LOL The progress I achieve is also a great motivator, but note that even progress is fear-based (’I don’t want to LOSE the progress I’ve made’).

Sorry to have written a treatise, but I hope I’ve helped someone with their weight-loss/maintenance efforts.

Again, Chris, congrats!

Joel :-)

Get religion. I recommend traditional Catholicism (Tridentine Mass). Then fast as a sacrifice to the Lord God in recompense for your many sins, or for the Holy Souls in Purgatory.

Much easier to do, and great spiritual benefits.

I definitely agree with portion control. Along with exercise and a healthy diet, you don’t need diets like these.

My boyfriend is from Europe and he’s always commenting on how massive our portion sizes are. When I realize that I’m eating way to much at one time, I’ll do a detox diet like this. It’s healthy when you do it this way.
