Today I watched the 2007 MTV Movie Awards hosted by my favorite comedian Sarah Silverman. One part of her opening monologue had me in the most uncomfortable laughter I’ve ever experienced. She begins a joke mentioning how Paris Hilton is about to go to jail. In a thunderous applause by the audience, the camara cuts to Paris who obviously is a bit uncomfortable. However it’s Sarah’s punchline to the joke that shows a pissed off Paris Hilton. I actually felt a little sympathy for Paris because the whole audience was laughing at her expense. I’ll just let you see the video of Sarah’s opening monologue to hear exactly what was said:
My question is why was Paris even at the MTV Movie Awards? She had to know she was going to be the butt of at least one of the jokes. Even though the joke may have been taken too far, Paris made her own bed and now she has to lie in it; in this case a cot in a 10×10 prison cell.

Its funny b/c when sarah was on the VMAs last year(essentially her tryout for this hosting gig) she did that whole bit about paris being too fat. So anything that paris was subjected to was not only expected, it was mandated by previous behavior.
I totally wrote about this too in my blog. It was sad for Paris but she deserved it. It’s such a small price to pay for being who she is.

It is difficult to feel sympathy for someone who feels that they are above the law. Had you or I committed the crimes Ms. Hilton did, we’d have been in jail and most definitely not attending any fashionable function.
Sarah is amazing - and called it like she saw it.
Paris did the crime, now she’s doing the time.
